Azzie’s intention as a dance artist is to create work that somehow touches on the phenomenon of human existence. She is interested in perception, in illusion, and in using performance to induce states in, or affect an audience on, a sensorial, emotional, perhaps even subconscious level. She believes in the concept of performance as a transformative process: perhaps even on the most subtle level we may not be exactly the same person when we leave a performance as when we entered. However many times a piece is performed, each performance can only happen in one moment, and thus the power of performance as a site of human connection and shared human experience is a powerful process (which can also become a point of inspiration toward social change).
